Only a week to go!
With only a week to go until the concerto final of BBC Young Musician, it's fair to say that this is one of the busiest and most important times of my life thus far! I recently discovered that the Russian virtuoso Sergei Nakariakov is one the adjudicators, and it has been a rather humbling experience listening to his recording of the Tomasi Concerto aged just 16! I've also been very lucky in performing the Tomasi to a range of musicians, not just trumpeters, including a violinist and flautist, who have brought another dimension to my playing. In addition, lessons with Paul Archibald, Gareth Small and James Watson (tommorow!) have also helped enormously to increase my confidence, and following my play-through with the Chetham's Symphony Orchestra this week, I'm sure I'll be raring to go next Saturday.
Before that, however, I've also got a Big Band concert, and I'm chairing a series of interviews at Chets to help decide who will follow in my footsteps in becoming the next Head Boy. Added to that, I'm preparing some programme notes for my LRSM diploma on 25th May, and trying to get as much practice done as possible around my A-level revision. 24th May also sees two masterclasses with distinguished trumpeters Rex Richardson and Hakan Hardenberger, which I'm looking forward to immensely. Still, no rest for the wicked hey??!
I promise all that I will faithfully update my blog next Sunday morning (not too early though!) to let you know the result of the BBC competition. I realise that I am very lucky to have got this far, and the most important thing from my point of view now is just to relax(!) and enjoy the experience. Wish me luck!.....
