Don Lusher RIP

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Don Lusher died on wednesday.

I had the very great privilege of seeing him and his band (featuring the great Tony Fisher) over a year ago and he was still a top class player.

He has done a great deal for jazz trombone in the UK and he will be missed.

Indeed. Don was a fine player who, although mainly known for his jazz playing, was well-respected in all fields of playing. Infact he performed a number of World premieres of what are now considered to be standard classical trombone repertoire. His enthusiasm for music-making and the work he did to get as many involved in brass playing will be sorely missed.

I had a recording with Don a few years ago. I don't know the man very well, but I know the brass society has lost a great tromboneplayer.
