Yamaha YTR1335 v YTR2335
05/16/10 at 13:33:45

Hi,
Any Yamaha trumpet experts out there? I'm a returning player, looking to buy a Yamaha instrument, either the YTR1335 or the YTR2335, but I stuggling to understand the difference between the two? Websites give very similar descriptions, both classed as student trumpets, the 2335 has a thumb hook on the first valve slide. Can someone shed some light on it for me. Thanks.

The "2" series has better workmanship. And if you have the budget, it's not that much more to go on to the "4" series, which will give you an even better instrument for not much more money.

Also, the conventional wisdom is still that a good used instrument of a reputable manufacturer can save you a lot.

Hi Late Bar

The YTR-1335 is a budget version of the YTR-2335, minus as you say the 1st slide thumb hook.  I can't see the YTR-1335 listed on the UK version of the UK Yamaha website, but I am pretty sure that it was also minus the tuning slide brace.

If you search back a long way, I am sure that there was a previous thread that mentioned that the valves were a lower quality on the 1335.

Like iiipopes suggested, I would suggest paying the small extra for the 4335G if possible, but would go for the 2335 minimum.

All the best

Lou

OK thanks. I've gone for a YTR2335 and bought a used 'nearly new' one for £175.
If I was buying new, I agree that the price differential from the 2335 (£370ish) to the 4335 (£450ish) is minimal and worth spending the extra. But from my research of used prices recently, the 4335 has such a good reputation that 'nearly new' used models are going on ebay for £320, that's close to 75% of its new price, whereas the 2335 was a bit of a bargain at about 50% of its new price.
We'll see how I go, I'll upgrade to a 4335 when I've exhausted my talent on the 2335, it could be a while!
Now to research the mute or silent brass options, I need to be able to practice when the kids are in bed and I'm sure it won't be sounding much like a lullaby for a good few months!
Thanks for all your help and advice. Smiley

Good call to purchase slightly used until you get back up to full speed and decide if you want something different. Keep us posted on the comeback trail. Welcome back to brass!

I just bought a Silent Brass system for it, new this time, didn't fancy ear plugs that had been used and wanted the guarantee. So, I have a trumpet and a mute system arriving tomorrow, exciting stuff!

It's 20 years since I've played one, I can't even remember the positions for the notes, hoping it'll all comes back quickly. Can't wait!

is there a problem with the second valve on the trumpet you have for sale? It appears to be stuck down on both pictures on your e-bay advert.

It shouldn't be down if not being held down.

Yes. Keep valves oiled and slides greased.
